Indian renewable energy company ACME Solar has commissioned 107.36 megawatts and 437.49 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage at two projects in Rajasthan, Renewables Now reported. The systems began commercial operation on October 2.

Two projects, Bikaner and Chittorgarh

Phase three of the company’s Bikaner battery project added 53.63 megawatts and 214.52 megawatt-hours. Phase one at Chittorgarh added 53.73 megawatts and about 223 megawatt-hours. Both were built through wholly owned subsidiaries and commissioned on September 30, according to Trade Brains.

The additions bring ACME Solar’s operational battery storage capacity to 4.96 gigawatt-hours.

Batteries help solar power cover the evening peak

Battery storage lets solar farms save electricity generated during the day and release it when demand peaks in the evening, which helps stabilize the grid. The projects sell power under long-term utility agreements.

The figures come from the company’s filings as reported by financial and industry outlets and have not been independently verified. India has been adding storage alongside its renewable buildout, including a green energy corridor plan that pairs transmission with battery storage.
