A Sheriff's K9 Named Arch Found Three Missing Children a Mile Into the Colorado Woods
Three children, one 9 and two 6 years old, wandered a mile and a half from their Colorado campsite before a sheriff's K9 named Arch picked up their scent and led searchers straight to them, unharmed.

Three children wandered away from a family campsite near the Midland Bike Trail east of Buena Vista, Colorado, on September 26 — and a sheriff's K9 named Arch found them safe about a mile and a half into the woods, according to WISN.
Two hours of searching before calling for help
The children, a 9-year-old and two 6-year-olds, had been camping with a large extended family group. Relatives searched on their own for about two hours before the family's worry turned to desperation and they called the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office.
A scent at the campground, then a trail into the trees
Deputies deployed their canine, Arch — also known as Archie — who picked up a scent right at the campground and immediately led the search team into the surrounding woods. A helicopter, drones, and several search-and-rescue teams had also joined the effort by the time Arch located the children.
Found uninjured and reunited with family
The three children were found uninjured and returned safely to their relatives. The rescue is the latest reminder of how quickly a short wander in unfamiliar terrain can turn serious — and how a trained nose can close the gap faster than searchers on foot.
